Don't Judge A Pattern By It's Ugly-Ass Cover

I am just as guilty as anyone of judging patterns by their cover and model photos.  It's a shame that a good shape is ruined by some homely fabric choices and models.  Case in point, my skirt of the month pattern choice (which are really shorts), Simplicity 7092.
Hawt.
Poor little pattern.  Usually, I flip to look at the line drawing to get a better idea of the shape and seams of the garment.  This helps get a better idea of the pattern potential.
Here is the line drawing:
Simple Action Shorts
So, not all that bad. My reasoning on picking this pattern was that it's just a simple shorts/pants pattern that can be jazzed up and down with fabric choice, pockets, trim, applique, embroidery, etc.  Maybe even silky fabric and eyelet for cute jammie shorts? I really just wanted some simple shorts to wear around town this summer.  Here's what I have made so far, using view D (short shorts) from the pattern, and elastic instead of a tie for the waist.

Version 1, picnic shorts.

Pic- Nickers
Version 2, anchor linen with pockets.

Ahoy.

Pockets for me booty.
I was actually really excited about how easy this pattern is.  I whipped out these 2 pairs in less than 2 hours.  I'm a bit disappointed that I didn't have more than 1 person in my class on Saturday.  Maybe this little post will help.  And, sorry I don't have a real life action pic of me in them, but my actual picnic plan was cancelled because of gloomy weather yesterday, so I didn't wear them out.  Another day.
